Meat eaters opting for vegetarian alternatives

Last year saw the ‘flexitarian’ trend thrust into the limelight as many people in the UK chose to cut back on the animal products they consume.
With more vegetarian options available to the public than ever before (just look at Veggie Pret and All Bar Ones ‘Veganuary’ menu), it’s no surprise that our recent research conducted alongside restaurant and nightlife experts DesignMyNight, found that 64% of meat eaters can be swayed to eat vegetarian meals when dining out*.
Restaurants are catering to the growing demand of vegetarianism and veganism as consumers become more health conscious. Documentaries such as “What the Health” and “Cowspiracy” are said to be making consumers more wary of what they eat and, in turn, we are currently witnessing more and more people opting for largely plant-based diets. The UK Vegetarian Society claims 2,000 people are saying goodbye to meat products every week and in the past year alone DesignMyNight have seen a 58% increase in vegan / vegetarian searches on their website.
According to Mintel, one in seven adults are interested in trying to limit and reduce their consumption of meat products and in the forthcoming year, we expect to see an increase in people identifying themselves as flexitarians.
With more meat eaters opting for vegetarian meals, DesignMyNight compiled a list of vegetarian restaurants around the UK that everyone needs to try. It is certain to tingle your taste buds whether you’re a meat eater, vegetarian or vegan.
*This research featured 732 meat eaters.
